UK: Changes to UK Immigration Rules

Latest on the UK immigration rules- March 2017

On 16 March 2017 changes to the UK Immigration Rules were published in the Statement of Changes. The main changes affecting the Tier 2 category from 6 April 2017 will be:

  •  The minimum salary requirement for applications applying under Tier 2 (General) will increase from £25,000 to £30,000
  • A certificate of sponsorship will be considered invalid if the immigration skills charge is not paid in full
  • The Tier 2 Intra Company Transfer (ICT) short term category will close to all new applications
  • The Immigration Health Surcharge of £200 per year that currently applies to Tier 2 (General) applicants, will also apply to Tier 2 ICT applicants and their dependants
  • Tier 2 ICT applicants earning £73,900 or above will no longer need to have 12 months previous employment with an overseas linked entity in order to submit an application
  • The salary threshold for Tier 2 ICT applicants who are able to extend their total stay in the category to up to nine years is being reduced, from £155,300 to £120,000
