Sterling’s GDPR countdown – four weeks to go

A major focus of Sterling’s GDPR project has been training our people about the regulation, its importance and the accountability all staff have towards its application.

Sterling’s GDPR committee, consisting of representatives from Sterling’s Human Resources, Information Technology and Change Management have designed and presented training courses to our GDPR taskforce, champions and employees across the business.

Step 4 – Training

Mandatory basic training covering the following topics has been provided to all staff through a live webinar:

  • Roles and responsibilities
  • The scope and principles of the GDPR, and how they relate to global mobility
  • The differences between the Data Protection Directive and the GDPR
  • GDPR terminology
  • Data mapping objectives
  • Data subject rights

Lyndsey Browne, Group Bid Manager has taken the basic training:

“Responding to GDPR questions as part of the RFP process and completing due diligence questionnaires is a major part of my role. The training has been invaluable in understanding the terminology and how the regulation relates to global mobility. I am now confident in giving our clients peace of mind when responding to their questions.”

Mandatory advanced training webinars followed and were delivered to all GDPR champions (please refer to our previous article for more information about our GDPR champions). Advanced training included:

  • The GDPR 11 chapters
  • Data subject rights
  • Breach reporting
  • Data transfer from EU to third countries
  • Compliance audits

This advanced training is the equivalent to our GDPR champions completing a GDPR foundation certification. To ensure continued understanding of the regulation our champions are required to pass an exam to continue in their role.
