Spain: Delays impact residence permit processing times

Delays in residence permit applications are being experienced by the Spanish Immigration authorities.

Any foreign national who is applying for a highly skilled or intra-company transfer residence permit can expect that their application will take longer than the 20 business days specified by the immigration authorities. Processing times for residence permits are expected to take between 45-60 days.

The causes of the delays can be attributed to the below factors:

  • Higher volume of applications being submitted
  • Lower staff numbers within the immigration authorities
