Kenya: Inspections and delays in applications

Employers in Kenya must prepare for inspections and delays in applications amid plans for major immigration changes.

The secretary for immigration has announced that there are many upcoming changes to Kenyan immigration policies. A sixty day audit of foreign workers has been implemented nationwide to investigate and eradicate undocumented workers.

Other changes to the immigration framework in Kenya include:

  • Electronic work permits will be gradually introduced
  • Work permit applications will face increased scrutiny

Employers must prepare for inspectors and police officers to conduct inspections and site visits. The authorities will request company files, personnel files and site access.
