We celebrate Jupiter’s ten year career at Sterling by learning about an “heroic” last minute dash across Hong Kong
What roles have you had in your time here?
I joined Sterling as a Relocation Assistant. I have risen through the ranks, gaining promotion to Junior Relocation Coordinator, then Relocation Coordinator. I am now the Senior Relocation Consultant in our Hong Kong office. I handle both relocation and moving files as well as managing immigration cases in-house, for both corporate and private assignees.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement at Sterling?
Can I have two? Winning the Sterling Star First Place in 2013 and taking on immigration cases in-house.
Tell us about a challenging move/project that you will always remember and how did you solve it.
One case that comes to mind is when I had an assignee who needed his and his wife’s visa’s renewed urgently. Visa renewals in Hong Kong require the applicant to be in the country for submission and collection however, a busy travelling schedule meant they may not be able to achieve this.
I personally met the assignee to collect their documents. I then visited the Hong Kong immigration office to request an immediate review of the case. This was agreed but the Immigration Officer was challenging the case and requested additional documents be presented on the same day.
The locations of the assignee and the Immigration Office meant that this was ambitious.
I contacted the assignee immediately to arrange for me to collect the additional documents. By the time I got them it was quite late in the day but rather than wait to the next day I ran to the Immigration Office before it closed. The renewal was approved and I returned the documents back to the assignee that evening. The family were very appreciative of my efforts and asked me to stay for dinner.
The assignee gave the following feedback to Jupiter and her manager:
“Jupiter, fantastic! Thanks for your heroic efforts!”
“I am writing to ensure you know how pleased I am with the efforts of Jupiter Ko. Once Jupiter and I got connected, she was committed to obtaining my families Hong Kong visa extensions in record time. Despite some unusual and time consuming complications, Jupiter completed the entire process and delivered the required extensions within 30 hours. Please extend my sincerest thank you.”
What Sterling value do you think you represent the most and why?
Caring – I treat the assignee’s move as my personal move, try to see the things from their point of view, to understand what are their concerns and provide information before they ask.
Flexible – when handling an immigration case I have been very flexible to assignee in terms of meeting location and time (i.e. either at assignee’s residence, office, shopping mall, or train stations etc. and I am flexible to meet them during non-office hours and even weekends).
How has your career and skill set developed during your time at Sterling?
Before joining Sterling, I had zero knowledge about the relocation industry. I am very grateful to my colleagues who taught me lots of things to develop my skills and knowledge.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
I enjoy very much my work at Sterling and wish to celebrate my 15, 20, 25 and 30 years anniversary!
