Italy: Stricter approach to “Business” activity

Ministry of Foreign Affairs is adopting a stricter approach to “Business” Activity

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Italy is growing stricter in its assessment of business visa applications. At present, the Italian authorities are assessing all applications using the following decree:

“allows foreign nationals to make short visits to Italy for business (economic-commercial) purposes, to make contacts of conduct negotiations, for learning or verifying the use and functioning of capital goods purchased or sold under commercial and industrial cooperation agreements”

Previously the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued business visas for types of business activities that were not listed in the decree, however going forward applicants will need to limit their activities to fall inside the above categorisation.

Foreign nationals who are currently in Italy for business under the visa-waiver programme must ensure their activities fall into the decree guidelines or risk being punished by the Italian authorities.
