Ireland: Work Permit threshold expansion

The Irish Government consider expanding the work permit threshold to incorporate lower skilled workers

While nothing is yet confirmed, the Irish government plans to review the current work permit employment system. This review will be conducted with the aim of increasing the number of employment permits for lower skilled employees in some industry sectors.

This is welcomed by some employers who are finding it difficult to fill their job vacancies with Irish or EU workers. Employers in farming, food services and construction are listed as areas where lower skilled work is required. It is these industries which will benefit from the expansion of work permit framework.
