3 new categories

As of 1 April 2017, the Ministry of External Affairs have amended the e-visa regime for India. The e-visa is now divided into three category’s e-Tourist Visa, e-Business Visa, and e-Medical Visa and the duration of stay has increased form 30 days to 60 days and can be applied for up to 4 months in advance of travel date. The new e-visa applies to nationals of 161 countries and through entry of 24 airports and 3 Indian sea ports.

Increased visa fees for all nationals and visa categories

Any applications processed on 1 April 2017 or submitted after this date will have to pay the new visa fees for all nationals and visa category.

Two new subcategories for India Employment Visa added

With immediate effect, two new subcategories have been added to the India Employment visa: the Intern or (I) Visa and Film or (F) Visa. The Intern Visa is for foreign nationals looking for an internship with Indian companies, educational institutions, and non-profit organisations(NGOs) which is all subject to checks and conditions. The Film Visa is for foreigners looking to shoot movies in India. Previously, those looking to shoot films in India were issued a Journalist visa.
