France: Children Travelling Out of France Require Parental Authorisation

Latest update on children travelling out of France

Since 15 January 2017, minor children (under the age of 18) who live in France that wish to travel outside of the country will require parental authority before they begin travelling.
This form (click here for form) must be completed by the relevant person who holds parental authority for the child:

All children must carry the following documents when travelling regardless of nationality:

  • Valid ID (passport or ID card for French or EU nationals)
  • Visa where applicable
  •  A copy of the parent’s ID: valid passport or ID card (for French or EU nationals only) or residence permit
  • The authorization form signed by the person with parental authority

This rule also applies to children living in the French border areas commuting to neighboring countries to study e.g. Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, etc. The authorization is valid for one year from the date the authorization is signed for or however long the parent decides to validate it for, as long as it is within the year.
