From 21 January 2019, EU citizens living in the UK and their non EU citizen family members will be able to apply for the immigration status they will need once the UK has left the EU. To apply in this test stage, EU citizens must hold a valid passport and their non EU family members must hold a valid biometric residence permit.
The EU Settlement Scheme will be fully rolled out in March 2019, however the test stage will allow the Home Office to gain insight as to how the system is performing and whether any improvements need to be made.
The public test phase comes following a private beta phase that was specifically for employees in the higher education, health and social care sectors. The Home Office have advised that feedback during this phase has so far been position.
