United Kingdom: Immigration changes

The Home Office has published the statement of immigration changes which will take effect in November. The most noteworthy change is the creation of the second testing phase of the EU Settlement Scheme for EU nationals and their family member living in the United Kingdom. These EU Nationals will need to register post Brexit.

In preparation for Brexit, the EU Settlement Scheme was announced on 21st June 2018 to offer living status to EU nationals currently living in the United Kingdom under the EU freedom of movement. Those with five years of residence in the United Kingdom will be granted “Settled Status” (permanent residence) and those without will be granted a limited leave which will allow them to get to the five year residence.
