Ukraine: Tighter border controls introduced for Russian nationals

As of 26th November 2018 until 27 December 2018, Ukraine has declared martial law in the regions of Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Kherson, Odessa, Nikolaev and Vinnitsa.

Throughout this time Russian nationals who are entering Ukraine are being scrutinized. It has been reported that over 70 Russian nationals were stopped crossing the Ukraine border at the airports because they could not confirm the purpose of their trip to the Ukraine. Some of the refused Russian nationals had made illegal trips to off limits territories, most notably Crimea.

With the increased scrutiny of Russian nationals at Ukrainian borders they are advised to carry the documents below so they are allowed entry into Ukraine:

  • Passport
  • Work / Residence permit / Registration Sheet
  • Documents confirming status (employer letter, employment contract. Business visitors are recommended to carry at least USD $35 cash per day of their stay)
  • Accommodation details
  • Insurance details
  • Flights details, arrive and return
