The Philippines: Work permits to undergo stricter procedures

The Bureau of Immigration has specified that foreign nationals applying for Special Work Permits (SWP’s) and Provisional Work Permits (PWP’s) will need to adhere to additional procedures. Both types of permits will allow temporary work on a tourist status. Applications under these two categories will be subject to more scrutiny.

The assessment criteria will assess each application through the following criteria:

  • Existence of the sponsoring company
  • Company address
  • Foreign nationals address
  • Nature of the business
  • Valid government-issued licence to operate the business
  • At least 12 days validity on the foreign nationals tourist visa

Once the applications are approved:

  • The Special Work Permit will have a three months validity which can be extended once
  • The Provisional Work Permit will have a non-extendable six month validity
