In the instance that a “No-Deal Brexit” occurs, the Netherlands has outlined its plans on how it will accommodate UK Nationals:
- As of 29th March 19 – 1st July 19 there will be a transition period where UK Nationals and family members can continue to study, live and work in the Netherlands
- UK Nationals residing in the Netherlands will receive a letter which will act as a temporary residence permit from the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND)
- During this transition period all UK nationals will be required to apply for a new residence permit which apply to all EU citizens
- Any UK nationals who do not hold residence in the Netherlands on 29th March 2019 will need a work authorisation and residence permit in order to live and work in the Netherlands
The plans set out by the Dutch Government ensure that Dutch employers and UK Nationals will retain free movement during the transition period. The UK Nationals will be informed of their status by the IND during this period. The IND will require that all UK Nationals are registered at the local municipality/town hall to ensure they will receive the correct information.
