Nigeria: Residence Permit

Latest update on Nigeria’s Residence Permit

Foreign nationals who have been living in Nigeria will have to apply for and obtain a National Identity Number (NIN). This National Identity Number must be issued by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Employers who have long-term foreign nationals in Nigeria must have their employees obtain their National Identity Number before 1st October 2017. The consequences of not adhering to this requirement are that any foreign national will not be able to renew their long term residence/work permit.
