Our Moving Process

Successful moves need careful planning. At Sterling, we have years of experience moving families around the world. With our network covering more than 180 countries, you can be confident that we will have experienced professional teams available to help you, no matter where you’re moving to or from.



Step 1 – Your Initial Enquiry

We know that planning to move can seem like an intimidating task. With Sterling you can be confident that our expert teams will do everything they can to make your move as efficient and stress-free as possible.

Once you’ve sent us your enquiry, one of the team will contact you to discuss your requirements. We’ll need to discuss a survey to arrange our quotation and we’ll talk you through exactly what to expect throughout the process.

Step 2 – Your Sterling Survey and Quotation

Surveys are a critical step to planning your relocation. This will often involve one of our surveyors visiting you to assess the things you need to move. If you have a small number of items, your Sterling Consultant can provide you with a self-survey form and in some areas we can offer video-surveys.

Our surveyors are moving specialists. They will explain the process in detail and answer any questions you have about the support that Sterling can offer. Once the survey is complete, the results will be handed to your Consultant who will prepare your quotation and moving plan and answer any questions.

Step 3 – Setting Dates for Move

Once you’re happy with our quote, your Consultant will send confirmation of your booking with all the key details. They’ll be on hand throughout your move to make sure everything goes smoothly and will be there to help at any time, whether you have a question about shipping times or need a hand filling out any paperwork.

Step 4 – Packing, Transportation and Delivery

The Sterling team will be with you to get everything loaded on the booking dates. Our foreman and crew will introduce themselves and talk you through the day’s schedule. Then, after installing protective coverings around your home, they’ll get to work! You’ll get a detailed inventory that we’ll ask you to sign as a record of what we’ve packed. To us, everything you own is priceless. Our experienced crew members take utmost care and use only the best materials and techniques to protect your belongings.

Depending where you’re going, your shipment could travel by Air, Road, Rail or Sea (for long distance moves we might use a combination of methods). We track your shipment every step of the way and your Consultant will keep you informed at each turn. For international moves they’ll make sure your goods are smoothly cleared through customs, before arranging delivery.

When the time comes, our delivery crew will be there to unload and unpack your belongings, placing any furniture in the correct rooms and placing boxes where you need them. We’ll remove used packing materials when we’re done, so they don’t clutter up your new home (wherever possible, they will be recycled).

Step 5 – Helping you Settle In

Once everything has been delivered, we’ll follow up with a quick call or email a day or two after the unpacking is complete to make sure you’re happy with our service. We’ll check whether there are any questions you’d like to ask about your move or even your new home location…and we like to take this opportunity to get your feedback on the overall moving process.
