Japan: Immigration changes due to begin in April 2019

The Ministry of Justice in Japan has recently announced plans to replace its existing immigration bureau and create a new immigration agency in April 2019. The new agency is being created to deal with the anticipated influx of foreign workers and will be split into two parts:

  • One will govern Immigration control and departures from Japan
  • The other will govern residency and any support

The new agency will have more scope for transparency to allow foreign workers to enjoy improved circumstances and less uncertainty in their immigration process.
