Hong Kong: Identity Card to be replaced

The Hong Kong Identity Card is due to be replaced

The Hong Kong Identity Card is being replaced in the fourth quarter of 2018 by a new technologically advanced card that has safer security features.

Immigration Departments will set up replacement centres across Hong Kong, which will feature self-service registration and collection kiosks. Approximately 8.8 million cards will be replaced in phases, according to the applicant’s year of birth. Residents can make an appointment to complete the form in advance on the internet or through a mobile app. Immigration officials will announce this arrangement.

Please note persons aged 65 and older are permitted to replace their cards at any time during the designated period of the change. This change is scheduled to be completed within four years.
