Egypt: Local Registration Requirement Enforced

Latest update on Egypt’s local registration requirement

As of mid-July 2017, nationals of the countries listed below, that hold either business, tourist and work visas as well as residence permits, will have to register with the immigration authorities within seven days of arrival in Egypt or they could face a fine.

Afghanistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bosnia- Herzegovina, Burundi, Chad, DR Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Rwanda, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, Yemen.

It is recommended that registration requirement is checked case by case basis as the list of nationalities that require registration can be subject to change.

How to Register

Foreign nationals can visit an immigration office (or police station containing an immigration department desk) in the area where the foreign national is staying. Alternatively, the foreign national can complete registration through an immigration agent acting under a Power of Attorney signed by the foreign national.

The original passport used to enter Egypt, with the entry stamp should also be brought along to registration.

Foreign nationals within the listed country that fail to obey the registration process could face issues when departing Egypt, inability to obtain residency visa endorsement and subject to monetary fines ranging from EGP 350 to EGP 1500 (USD 20 to USD 80).
