Changes to visa requirement for Citizens of Brazil, Bulgaria, and Romanian

From 1 May 2017, the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will be employing new policies for Brazilian, Bulgarian, and Romanian citizens who have held a Canadian temporary resident visa (TRV) in the past ten (10) years or who currently hold a valid United States (US) non-immigration visa.
Citizens who meet the requirement will no longer need to apply for temporary resident visas and can fly or transit through Canada with an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) instead. Brazilian citizens can apply for an eTA as of 1 May 2017 and the Canadian Government intend all citizens of Romania and Bulgaria to apply for an eTA from 1 December 2017.

Citizens of the either of the three countries that not meet the requirements will still have to apply for a temporary resident visa through the normal methods.

New Instructions on Collecting Administrative Monetary Penalties and Determining When Employers are in Default of Payment

The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have updated their policies, when employers are found non-compliant and subject to Administrative Monetary Penalties they will receive a final determination notification which will outline the Administrative Monetary Penalties owed. Penalties have to be paid in full within 30 days after the NOFD is considered received or the employer would need to have an payment agreement with IRCC within the 30 day’s outlined on the NOFD

Canadian Border Services Agency Phasing Out Paper Declarations

The Government of Canada launched the mobile declaration application called “CanBorder – eDeclaration” on 20 March 2017, it is for immediate use at Primary Inspection Kiosks in the Ottawa/MacDonald – Cartier International Airport. The kiosk allows travellers to confirm travel documents, complete an on-screen declaration and confirm the travellers identity with facial authentication.
