Latest updates on the Global Talent Scheme in Australia

The Global Talent Scheme will be introduced on 1st July 2018 and will run for a period of twelve months. This scheme will allow business and start-up companies to sponsor foreign workers on the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS Subclass 482). Employees who apply under this scheme will face easier applications and shorter processing times.

The Global Talent Scheme in Australia is divided up into two main categories:

Established Business Stream

  • This allows established companies to sponsor highly skilled/qualified employers who earn more than $180’000 per year
  • Companies are allowed to sponsor twenty workers per year
  • Employees who qualify will be eligible for a four year Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS Subclass 482) visa and able to apply for Permeant Residence after three years
  • The application process is simpler and the processing time is reduced

Start-up Stream

  • This route allows start-up companies to sponsor foreign nationals who hold specialised technology skills
  • Companies are allowed to sponsor five workers per year
  • Employees who qualify will be eligible for a four year Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS Subclass 482) visa and able to apply for Permeant Residence after three years
  • The application process is simpler and the processing time is reduced
  • Applicants in the Start-Up Stream must meet the same criteria as applicants in the Established Business Stream, with the exception of the salary requirement
